Default How warm does your S8 get?

Mine will get to 90 celcius on the dash and stays there. But the wings are fairly warm. Also quite a bit of warmth around the bay, especially coming out from the wheel arches.

I almost always have the fan going as well, which is quite loud when you are using like 30-40% throttle, sounds a bit **** to be honest!

Is that normal?

Chris

Sounds normal to me - the viscous fan can be a noisy bugger, the electric will always run if the climate is switched on

I get quite a bit of heat pumping out from under mine when it's warm and my gauge behaves exactly the same

Just me being a worrying tosspot then haha. Hmm drown the viscous fan out with an exhaust... sounds like a plan!

Yes mine just goes upto 90 within about 2miles and never goes higher and I removed my viscous fan over a year ago. I didn't like its noise and I was going to fit a additional electric fan, but the std aircon fan keeps it in check even in the tropics of Manchester traffic. I think I saw 27c one day!!!!! The wings and body work do get hot, this is just the aluminium's excellent heat conductivity it's like a giant heat sink. Car manufactures have to design a car that can be sold all over the world, some owners might push it too the extremes 40 degrees c towing a broken down friend over a mountain pass for example.
Cheers Dave

That's a great result, no overheating with fan removed, thanks for posting.
I really want to remove my fan too (it is noisy, like a big truck lol) but may get a electric replacement just in case.
Mine did start creeping over 90C just one time in London traffic, must have been 30C outside. But that kind of weather only happens once a year anyway

My fan used to be noisy all the time, until I had new viscous coupling fitted a couple of years ago. I believe the couplings generally seize after a few years, causing the fan to permanently turn. When the engine's cold (and not running) you should be able to turn the fan easily by hand.

With a properly working coupling, my fan is quiet from cold and quiet most of the time when on the move, even with the engine at full operating temperature. Only in warmer weather or after some enthusiastic driving (or sitting in traffic), does the fan become noticeably loud again.
