Default exhaust repair

over taking a car at full pelt today when without warning the car sounded like a hot rod.
a massive sound erupted that reverberated the whole car.
pulled over immediately and found that an 8cm sleeve between the cat and silencer had corroded and split.
the car sounded FANTASTIC though.
like a top fuel dragster at the slightest blip of the throttle. the V8 burble ripped through the air.
drove through the town where i practice as a senior dentist, and know most of the residents as patients.
i could not stop laughing at the looks I got today.

got home, and the teenage kids suggested i leave it as it was.
any way got it repaired with Gun Gum .waiting for it dry.

Gun Gum. It will be interesting to know how that works out.

The sleeves are only a couple of quid, had them replaced on my old D2 after they almost corroded through. Any exhaust place should be able to sort the problem with new parts.

It'll be blown out fairly quick i imagine, quite a bit of pressure up that end

Should've tried some glass ionomer cement ... that's stuff's pretty tough!

Alternatively, if the Gun Gum holds out, perhaps switch to using that in the surgery instead (relabelled as Gum Gum of course).

Coincidentally, I have just confirmed that the rather satisfying noise my D2 had started to make in the last couple of days was due to the same thing. Not sure I want to cure it ! The crackle from using full throttle is certainly head turning.

so far so good.
the stuff has set rock hard.
i used it as it had great reviews.
it came with the gum and an adjustable metal sleeve.
the gum is lightly smeared to the pipes, the metal sleeve is clamped and then then the gum is used to seal the ends.
it looks like a real robust job.
did not think looking at OEM part first, but then again need the car on the road asap.

Mark: Now why did i not think about GI first, i bloody use it for every thing else in life….
Gum Gum ..love it

I have been considering just that! It does make it a bit boomy though at constant revs.
