Default oil leak

I seam to be leaking some oil on my D2 S8, its leaving a few little puddles every time its parked, i have had the under tray off and found the sump is very wet.
All the bolts are tight though so its not leaking there.
Seams to be coming from near the front of the engine on the driver side.
I cant really see where its coming from as there is far to much stuff in the way..
Could it be the oil pump seal?

Its prob losing about 1l every 500 miles..
I'm fairly new to these engines so any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks.
Bo

One of the most common leaks is from the rear output shaft on the gearbox, but you can smell that as it drips onto the exhaust. This sounds like a different location to this though - someone more experienced (most of the guys on here!) will be along shortly I'm sure

The cam cover gaskets are a common fail point. Get the plastic covers off and have a look around the seal area. A new set for both sides is about £26.84 from a stealer. Less maybe from GSF or Eurocarparts if they do them.

Thanks. It's not the cam cover gaskets unfortunatly, as it's dry around there. Also they have been fitted with oem gaskets and some horiable gasket sealent.
I'll have another look with a torch.
Thanks.

Is there not a common problem with the oil cooler. I think there's a plastic pipe that breaks and can cause oil leaks.

Ok, maybe that's it then..

Is the oil cooler on the driver side lower front of the engine?

Yes it is. Although the plastic pipe psyche speaks of is the water supply to the heat exchanger.

There is a figure of 8 seal in there; but to change it you'll need the short plastic hose as it generally breaks as you remove the oil cooler!

That'll be the breaking of the pipe that I remember then.. I'm pretty sure that the oil cooler can cause leak problems though
