I saw these on ebay. They look like the same material as the Audi original pads.
Does anyone here work in the plastics industry, or has access to someone who can test materials. I have my old original Audi pads, and would be happy to purchase one of these new ones for testing, so they can be compared against each other. If material is identical this is a much cheaper solution than a new chain tensioner. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3211069165...84.m1423.l2649 Last edited by Goran; 3rd June 2013 at 07:49 PM. |

Goran, this thread should be given an award for most interesting thread of the year. Will follow with attention. The cost of mistake is very high though if material is 'not right'.

Thanks Sergey, I only wish the solution was already known.
The even more ideal solution would be if we could find out a contact for this factory thats making these, and ask them to cast a few from Duratron PAI, the pellets for casting are readily available to factories but are not sold to individuals. I was also considering finding someone to cast a pad from steel, then machine a slot for a pad, which when slotted in cannot fall out even if it cracks. |

Yeah, you never know when you try...
I opened other items that this seller is offering and found this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-GENUIN...item33815a4c0d On 3rd picture we can see boxes with "made in germany", where as on actual part itself (4th picture) we can see some Chinese hieroglyphics. Dodgy?

Good find
![]() I dont mind that the pads are made in China, as long as they used Nylon PA 4.6 Its easy enough to obtain the pellets for casting. And the colour looks right. But thats not enough to prove it is the right Nylon grade. I'm pretty sure Audi dont make the pads themselves anyway, its some big plastics factory. Could it be DuPont? It must be a fairly straigth forward chemical test for those that knows how? |
