Default Petrol Smell

Had a petrol smell for the last few days after using the A8.

Tracked it down to the fuel filter, which was replaced 3 weeks ago when it was serviced. After the car is driven, and the system is under pressure fuel leaks out as the filter is covered in petrol. The place that did the service is closed today which is really annoying.

As I have no access and limited tools, is there anything I can do without ramps to check or shall I wait for the garage to call. I'd be effectively running blind trying to fix it.

Mine also appears to be missing its cover, but it looks like its been missing for sometime based on the crap that is down there.

If it's not pooling up under the car i wouldn't worry about it too much Manno, petrol always smells worse than it is. It'll be OK until they open again.

Yes, its not pooling under the car. Got a picture of it with my iPhone and the forward end looks damp so its just weeping slightly. May have been like it since it was done, and I have done 500 miles since then. No wind here today, so maybe thats why I have noticed it. They have used new crush washers and its a genuine Audi filter.

I may get in touch with A8parts about getting a cover and screws for the filter though.

Thanks Neil, I'll speak to the garage tomorrow. First to get the leak sorted and second to see if it was fitted and they have forgotten to put it back on afterwards.

Car is back again, they were unable to reproduce the problem despite being driven 20 mile s to their workshop and a road test. So they have replaced all the washers used in the joints again, and road tested once more. So far no petrol smell, will keep an eye on it and see what happens.
