Default Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3 245/45R18 Winter tyres

A set of 4 barely used Winter tyres from my Audi S8.

When I bought the S8, it had winter tyres on it. After speak to the previous owner, I discovered that when he owned the car, he ran another set of larger alloys and had summer tyres on those so the winter tyres hardly ever got used.

I've bought a set of summer tyres to run the car around on so the winter tyres are now available.

Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3 245/45R18 100V spec with approx 7mm tread all round. 8mm is new so that gives you an idea as to how much they've been used.

All are in great condition, no repairs, no damage. I only pulled them off a month ago.

They're over £200 each new from both Camskill and Mytyres.

£450 for a quick sell.

Tyres in Banbury but may be able to post.

I know they cost a lot of money new but you can get similar tyres second hand for £40-45 each including mounting and balancing. One such place is http://www.dmtyres.co.uk I bought set of 16" winter Michelins(£160 each new) for A6 from them last winter with 6-7mm tread- £120 for a set of 4 including mounting and balancing. 18" they sell for £40-45 a piece.

The only Michelin Pilot Alpins on ebay at present have around 4mm tread. Winters become fairly useless below that in snow and ice so you're paying for old rope.

If you divide the new cost into mm of usable tread (8mm down to 1.6mm - legal limit) then it works out at around £35 per mm. Look at 7mm tread on a tyre and that equates to around £175 (£35 x 5 takes you down to 2mm) worth per tyre so I think that £450 is a cheap amount for almost new tyres.

Rough calculations but you get the idea.

I was not talking about e-bay, most of tyres on e-bay are overpriced.

Last winter I bought them from DM Tyres and all had between 6 and 7mm tread and between 2 and 3 years old since manufacturing date. They get them in bulk buying containers with tyres from Germany and sell cheap. I am sure they are not the only ones that does it.

I agree with this - I've just taken 2 Michelin Alpin 245/45 18s off my s8. They were bought from DM tyres in December for £40 each, so I it may be difficult to argue for much more than this per tyre.

Why not get some cheapish wheels for them so you have a set for winter?

Hey SyncroS8,

I'm in Banbury and might be interested in the winter tyres...although this is most definitely the wrong time of year to sell them. We're in the middle of a heatwave!

So much so that I've been out on the 'bike all over the weekend and today...

I have a 2001 S8 and a set of 18" alloys in the garage I was thinking about getting refurbed...might make sense to put a set of winter tyres on?

I already have a set of 9-spoke 20" alloys with Michelin Pilot Sport from my S8 and a set of 12-spoke 19" from my W12 that I am definitely getting refurbed and putting a new set of Michelin or Pirelli tyres on.

Am away for a couple of days but will catch up when I get back.

Drop me a pm as you are local...might meet up for a beer?
