Cruise control ...what next

Hi guys,
I've been having problems with the cruise control just not working , I tried the move the switches aggressively whilst swearing at it fix , but that didn't work .
I then bought a replacement stalk from a8 parts on fleabay , put that in and it still doesn't work , so what next ????????
