Propshaft alignment.
If you have removed your propshaft for rebuild or replacement correct alignment on refitting is important if you wish to avoid vibration, especially on vehicles with a centre bearing as found on many Audi quattro’s. Alignment tools are available but can be difficult to find and can also be expensive. For a very cheap alternative firstly buy two metres of planed 2x2 wood. Cut it in half then cut one half in half again. Attach both ends of the propshaft and loosely fit the centre bearing. Position the wood as in the photograph with the two short pieces next to the propshaft either side of the centre bearing, ensuring they do not foul any balancing weights. The longer piece goes underneath and the whole assembly is attached firmly to the propshaft using cable ties. All that is left to do is shim the centre bearing and the job is a good ‘un. Shims can be found at your local friendly Audi dealer.
