Default Tpms failure

Well is everyone suitably hungover?

On the drive down to London yesterday the tpms did not work at all with a malfunction warning on the dis.

Prior yo that a few days ago the left rear wheel wasn't reporting info so I filled the tyres with air and initialised the tpms and it came back and was fine.

But like I said now there's no wheels reporting, any ideas, is it normal for a total loss of all wheels at the same time on the Mmi?

I have the same issue - As I am getting 4 new boots, it may be the time to look at it and get the wheels re-diamond cut.

If my memory serves me, if one of the sensors is on its way out (Except the spare) the system falls over. Clarification of this could be good - and a way of replacing the sensors at a reasonable price too. Mine is a 2006 car, so I think it is coming to the end of the battery life.

Interesting, logic would tell me that each wheel would be independent of each other as there is an antenna for each wheel and a sensor for each wheel.

The other reason I think that is as I said the left rear wasn't reporting while the other three were prior to the total failure yesterday.

Well I can't do any investigation till I get back home in a few days so will see then.

Maybe low batteries, once they get old, the winter temos finally makes them go offline.

Seems like the low battery is the problem, got VCDS on the car today, two faults on about left rear that i mentioned before and another that makes no sense.

Interestingly even though the dis shows tpms failure and there are no readings on the mmi when i went into measured blocks all the wheels are reporting temp and pressure but the left rear battery voltage is lower than the others saying its not happy.

Left rear is 5 months remaining and the others are 6 months.

What a ****e system, 3 reading on the mmi would be better than none.

Did you ever get this sorted Del?

I started getting the TPMS alarm on the DIS just after I got my car back. I checked the pressures first as it's been stood a couple of months and all were okay, so I assume it's the sort of issues you were having, did you resolve it? I'm looking to get the wheels refurbished soon and I'd like to have the fault identified and sorted before I put them back on.

I don't have VCDS to do any diagnostic checks myself but that would obviously be the place to start. I may arrange a visit to A8 Parts if they've got the time to scan it for me.

Any advice would be much appreciated

Yeah I replaced all four sensors, if you get vcds hooked up you will be able to get a reading of battery life remaining. It will most likely be down to 6 months left

Ron, I can send you my VCDS cable via special delivery for Friday delivery, you play with it over the weekend and send it back to me on Monday morning, it will cost you only 6.95 postage which is cheaper than driving to the guys.
Warming up the engine before the journey would probably cost you just about 6.95

Thanks for the very kind offer Marcin but I'm heading up to Scotland for the weekend, part of my ongoing 50th birthday celebrations. Last week Dubai, this weekend Gleneagles.

I'm down near A8 Parts in the morning anyway so might just arrange a call in for a scan if they can accommodate me
