How old is your A8? I believe it's 3 years from the date the vehicle was first registered. An Audi dealer should carry out the repairs free (as long as it's not caused by an accident or poor care etc.) even if you didn't buy the car from them.

Three years for paint, 12 for the bodywork.
In either case it is subject to the car having not been re-pained outside of an Audi Approved body shop. https://www.audi.co.uk/owners-area/a...onditions.html |

Mine was the same but not visible unless crouching.
I just had to replace this part with the reversing camera version and I doubt my paint is as strong as the factory, so will have to watch out for this. My 2006 A8 is bubbling around both from indicator repeaters which I will sort out on Friday. Last edited by snapdragon; 8th July 2015 at 11:27 AM. |

Cheers snapdragon. Whereabouts did you buy your boot lid part and was it expensive??

Sorry to mislead you, I have had a look at the old A8 part and the only bubbling is around the tail light screw holes, maybe caused by galvanic reaction with the steel screws? The bubbling is hidden by the lights so was no problem. If yours is really bad and you need a new one, you can have it for ~£4-5 postage cost, but it would need repainting and I did drill 2 extra small holes on the underside that would need filling and sanding. It also has 2 of the tail light screws seized in ![]() Last edited by snapdragon; 11th July 2015 at 12:35 PM. |

I took it to Aylebury Audi to see if it was covered under warranty ( mine's an October 2005). They took plenty of pics, sent them off, but......it came back as a not covered issue, even though, I've seen several other D3s with this same defect. Will eventually get round to sorting it as it quite 'unsightly'!

Upon closer inspection of the old part, it is clearly galvanic reaction emanating from the screws that hold the number plate lights on (and often seize in place).
I used nylon screws on my new lights. M3x12 from ebay china and put a smal drop of plastic-freindly oil on the threads as they tend to grab a bit and the head is a bit soft. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151711761449 Last edited by snapdragon; 6th August 2015 at 08:48 AM. |

I had the same issue on a 2004 car. I managed to get a sucessful warranty claim through my local dealer in 2012. I had a full Audi Service History at the time.
The small black triangles on the rear side windows were also done at the same time, I've seen both on a lot of D3's. Should have been a recall or TSB. Maybe try another dealer ? |
