Hi There,
A while back i looked into this and got no where particularly fast. I did get one of the Aircon bottles from halfords, but could never quite find the gassing point. It worked if not that cold. Taking the front end off the car, my mechanic guy mentioned they had lost some gas (naughty). The aircon went from bad to non exsistant. Well i eventualy submitted and there is an aircon sign on one of the garages in the village. So i booked it in and dropped it off. Got a call about oil on the radiator (from taking the front end off) and said no, that was due to other stuff. So it came the end of the day and i wandered back to be told that my car didn't have a *LOW* port and they couldn't do anything. He had however vac checked it and it was fine. No charge So i've been driving with windows down and thank goodness for the sun roof. However Saturday i was in the garage and mentioned the issue to my mate and he said a place round the corner had a new machine and they were still open, so i popped over. The machine was pretty bulky and almost like a portable aircon in size. Had high and low leads, but they said they could connect to the *HIGH* port (on the radiator front, screw cap). They looked up the data for the S8 and it was 800grams, tapped it in. It 'recovered' what was left (o) and set about testing the system by holding a vacuum. Fine. Added UV dye (for future leak checks), oil and the gas. Took about 20mins all told and my wallet was only lightened £35+vat. *VERY* happy ![]() So you need a place with a decent machine that can use a *HIGH* port only. There is supposidly a low port is on the pump and is NOT for filling purposes. cya, Lee |
