Default Installing nav plus/tv in audi 100

Hi all,

Sorry if this is in the wrong thread. I don't own an A8 but I do have a related question. I have a 1991 Audi 100 which I'm planning on doing some modifying on. I've recently bought a Nav Plus (RNS-D) unit from an A8 and I want to install it in my 100. Along with the nav I've bought the analog diversity tv unit (4D0 919 146) from an A8, plus the digital upgrade box (4F0 919 142 A) so I can make it work, nav aerial and a complete Bose wiring loom and speakers from an 8. I've seen pictures on the web of the nav plus installed in Audi V8's of this vinatge so I know it can be done.

I've already worked out how it will be connected to the 100's original wiring, and bearing in mind this car is non can-bus so there will be a bit of poking around to be done for the sat nav to operate correctly, my questions are;

What cable will I need to connect the head unit to the analogue tv unit?
What cable will I need to connect the analogue unit to the digital one?
What aerial will I need to get the tv to work correctly?
Is there any can bus related issues I can expect from a non can bus car?

I am also toying with the idea of installing the bluetooth car phone from the D3, and again if there is any advice or installation instructions available on the forum regarding installing this to the Nav Plus system I'd be grateful.

Any and all help would be brilliant guys, I'm starting this project soon so I'd like to know what I need to order to get it all working.

Your post is only a few hours old, it's a Friday, it's the summer holidays, we are but a small group.

If anyone can help, they'll be along shortly

Were you not able to retrieve any of the wiring loom, it'll make things a whole lot easier. Getting the RNS-D up and running will be a piece of cake, but connecting the tuners without the original wiring is going to be a ballache. The Bose amp is a whole different ball game, we don't even bother retrofitting that into an A8 without it, its just too difficult, never mind trying to retrofit to a totally different model Audi. For the Bose you'll not find any wiring diagrams, and without at least the connectors will be a non starter. With the connectors its going to be trial and error to work out what does what.

RNS-D is canbus, but not Audi Canbus to make life more interesting.

RNS-C looks very similar, but was pre canbus and might work better.

I'd expect issues such as power not coming on/off with ignition, lighting etc not to work. Otherwise, it will operated fairly well as long as you supply it with power, ground etc.

I dont believe there was ever an OEM method for getting digital on the RND-D. There was a box for the RNS-E, but I dont beleive it is compatible (different canbus' wont help)

speak to a8parts, the sponsors of this forum. They may be able to supply the wiring from the headunit to the TV tuner. There were 2 types of tuner with very different connectors. without this, its going to be a faff to wire up.

Only kufatec have ever shown a product that can get digital TV on an RNS-D to my knowledge, so I cant help with any cable thats gonna connect all those bits together for you.

Aerials again will depend on the type of TV tuner you've got. But at this point I'm not convinced its compatible with your head unit anyway....

Everything on the D3 is tightly canbus integrated. You're either highly gifted and like a challenge, or have no idea what can of worms you're opening here.

If it were me, I'd junk eveything you bought and run with an RNS-E and stock digital tuner instead. The bluetooth module on that is very good and all will stitch together nicely...

Having looked at this in some detail, i.e. adding digital TV to my RNS-D I can confirm the first part of that. You'll have to go aftermarket.

The OEM analogue tuner "could" be used as an input route for signals from an aftermarket digital tuner (via the Aux inputs) OR you can buy an interface box that plugs into the DIN-style socket on the back of the RNS-D and takes normal 3-cable (Yellow/Red/White) phono connectors for CVBS and L/R sound.

I've gone down the latter route as my S8 didn't come with a TV tuner.
My setup is currently not installed, but I have previously had it all working in the car in "lash-up" mode. A job for later in the summer, it's all planned (alongside reinstalling my XCarLink unit more tidily)

The biggest problem I found is getting a decent aerial, you'll definitely need an amplified one.

2003 D2 FL S8. Irish Green Pearl/Beige. Solar sunroof, auto-dim mirrors, electric rear seat functions and extended leather. Ski hatch retrofit. Aftermarket reversing camera. DVB-T and XCarlink now removed as redundant.
2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". (Even rarer than a D2 S8!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one!
Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. Agate Grey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, Tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon. Added Auto-dim mirror, Leather seats, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!
