First bad experience in the S8
I went to play golf this morning and it was raining so looking doubtful. Took the opportunity to hit some shots on the range rather than waste the journey and the early start to the day. After half an hour the rain had stopped and it was clearing up so we decided to at least try to get a round in.
I returned to the car and opened the boot, changed my jacket for a weatherproof one, pushed the button and the boot closed. I knew the second it clicked closed I'd left the key in the jacket I'd just taken off and put in the boot Fortunately I live only half a dozen miles away so I phoned SWMBO when we'd finished and she brought the spare up, so no harm done. I learned a valuable lesson though and won't do it again

I've locked the key in the boot once too in a brand new Honda Accord so I know how that feels lol, unfortunately I was 150 miles from home and had to get the nice man from the RAC. To come and "break in" to the car to get me back in which then had me worried forever more at how easily and quickly he did it!

I always wondered about this. With the advanced keyless system, wouldn't the close proximity of the "locked in" key (in the boot or car) just mean that the doors/boot would open in the usual manner anyway? Or does the key need to be literally cm away from the aerials?

It does with mine - I did exactly the same yesterday and put my coat in the boot with the keys in it and only realised when the drivers door refused to unlock, I was very happy that it is smart enough to not lock the boot when the key is in there...

I wonder if my car set-up is different then, I tried immediately and it certainly wouldn't open? Is it maybe the "auto-lock" option on the MMI menu that determines it? I'm still finding new things every day so I'm keen to be educated so it doesn't happen again.

I think I have enabled the auto lock in the MMI, but haven't noticed it do anything, but I don't have an electric boot release - maybe that's the difference?
