Default Brake light out warning lamp

Hey everybody!
I'm new to the forum - and A8 (D3 2003 mod).
Yesterday I had a Brake light burned out warning - which went away. Today it was back See attachment. I took the time to verify wether one light was out or not - but all brake lights work as they should. Ignition on and off - and the warning is gone.
Has anyone git exoerience with this "gremlins"?

Best regards from Norway

Welcome to the forum
This may be a bad earth situation - have you scanned the car with a diagnostic cable? This may point towards the fault. It may also be a bad earth on a brake wear indicator cable or a breakdown in the cable itself somewhere along its length.

Thankx for a quick reply.
Yes I performed a scan with my vcds cable, but did not get a good tip.... what section should a taillight fault sort under? The only section I could find with regards to exterior lights was the one for headlight range - and that's pretty far off track...

I'll have a quick look at the wiering sometime this week.

I've had this happen on a D2 and nothing shows on VCDS because it's a simple circuit straight to the cluster. No idea if D3 is the same.

Mine was, I think, just down to dirty contacts on the bulb and a bit of damp weather. Took it out cleaned the bulb and socket and put it back and never had a problem since.

Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. Agate Grey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, Tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)

And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

The bulb failure light is not just for brake lights, its for any external light on the D3 except the number plate lights.

The brake lights are multiple LEDs, so if you check them and they are all working then I'd be looking elsewhere at the foglights, reversing lights and front sidelight bulbs.

In the D3 (2004) I recently had, there was a bulb out warning every time the right indicator was used. The DIS showed the bulb out warning followed by a birds eye view of the car with the o/s/r light cluster highlighted to show where the fault was coming from.

Practically all the LEDs were gone and the remaining ones were very dim, but yours may just need the contacts cleaning...

Thanx again for all the replies. Mannyo; I thought there was two types of bulb failure lights. The general which shows a bulb with a cross over it. That would be all bulbs exept brake lights. If you have the same symbol but with clamps on each side it would point to a brake light. Am I wrong? I attached a picture of the symbol I get.
A bit dissapointing that the D3 (atleast before facelift) isn' t clever enough to tell which bulb/light it doesn't "like"
