Default Graphics upgrade on the mmi 2g high system?

Is it possible to upgrade the graphics card/chip in the 2g high system for better quality.
I saw a thread on another site that shows this for 3g.
Just curious if its possible as my dads 3g system just looks slicker on the screen, more defined and clearer etc. Or can it be done with a software update? He has 3d maps but i dont.

its possible , but expensive its not new firmware, all the hardware and most of the ecu's have to be changed, last time i heard of it being done, a few years ago it cost someone 3500 to do it to an s8

no doubt you could shave that down by getting used parts but its still quite a job

As 'Limoncello' suggests; 2G to 3G is a major upgrade as most of the important ECUs were combined in new units.

3D maps are simple on 2G - you need MMI at 3460 or above AND Navigation DVD at 2007 or above.

Im not sure if i understand, im not after upgrading a 2g system to a 3g system, just upgrading the graphics card on a 2g system for a better quality of tv picture, same as you would in a computer. I only mentioned the 3g as i saw a thread where the very thing im asking was done on a 3g system.

The problem is that the video from the TV tuner is the old style yellow composite video, no amount of improving graphics is going to fix that because as far as video goes, thats all the MMI will accept. Then the LCD screen in the dash is quiet low resolution, so even if you could improve things the display will not cope.

MMI 3G shares nothing from the 2G system, its a completely different setup. You have to remember the MMI 2G system is 13 years old technology, whilst it was good for its time these days its pretty much outclassed by everything else.

would love to see the thread rick has found. the mmi uses lvds but i dont see how an upgrade of a graphics chip will make much difference to small low res screen.

it would be wicked if you can get 1080p quality can't you custom fit an iPad mini in place of the mmi screen?
