Just wondering...
Have not been driving mine long distances for the last 6 months or so, and can't remember what I used to get. Pottering around town, I am in the mid 15s to the gallon. A few blasts up the M1 recently at high-ish speed I am at 20-21mpg. 2002 S8 FE recently serviced run exclusively on Vpower. ![]() What are you guys getting? Is my economy representative? Or do I have dodgy O2 sensors...? I might add that this is all taken direct off the DIS. Zip |

Its been some time since the number of business miles you do has any impact on what the tax man wants for the perk of having a company car and/or fuel..... If you have a company car, and company fuel the whole tax bill is based on the CO2 emmisions only. If you have an opt out (ir, you run your own personal car), and the company pays all your fuel, and probably an 'opt out allowance', then the fuel and allowance are treated as income and taxed at the normal income bands, but with the pleasure of being able to offset the first 10000 business miles at 40p per mile and the rest at 25p...... The last alternative is if your company has a special agreement with the Inland revenue for expenses, and you can pay a set amount each month irrespective of the amount of fuel used, but you dont claim business miles.... All the advice above is comment only, I'm not a financial adviser, check it yourself, bla bla bla ![]()

I think we are both coming from the 'use our own cars and company pay for the fuel' side of the fence, where the amount of business miles has a very real effect on the tax bill!!
There are generally two options use your own car, and put in expense claims/company pays for business related mileage at whatever rate it wants (you can then claim the difference if any back from the IR up to the figures above.. 10k etc etc) or my option..use your own car and company pay all fuel with fuel card, submit that amount the IR upon when I call them and say 'hey chaps, actually xxxx miles were business from that lot' and the reimburse me at the same rates as above. So, keeping my business mileage up is a good thing in my case - and not hard since I am here and clients are in London. 500 miles every trip ! (down side is car has done 40k in 10 months ![]() |

My route to and from work is winding and hilly, so not terribly economical. I'm averaging around 18-19mpg (only 5 miles each way).
On a long motorway run I've had mid-high twenties, but generally in out-of-town driving it's around 21-22 That's an early A8 4.2 |

for the record my 3.7 is doing 24-26 mostly short local journeys of up to 20 miles with the occasional zoom up to london and back from swindon.
must be all those roundabouts slopping the fuel around. . . ahem ![]()
