Hi Guys,
Was driving yesterday and whilst sitting in traffic i noticed the temp gauge just going above 90. Only went up by a very little bit and soon as I started driving it went back to normal. Any thoughts on what this could be - im assuming thermostat. But i know that means a belts off job. Cambelt was changed at 80 something thousand miles and now is currently on 110,000. It was done by a main dealer so dont know if they changed thermostat and tensioners, etc, etc. Is it safe to drive until i next get the belt changed or do I need to get it sorted asap. Also vague price for cam belt change including thermo and water pump etc etc? Thanks guys

They ought to change everything else while they're in there but it's not part of the cambelt change job. Mine didn't get a water pump, but did have a stat
If it starts fluctuating regularly then get it changed early, but if it's getting up to temp and not then over heating it ought to be Ok to leave for now Prices fluctuate wildly - camspec in Crawley are good - depends which side of London you are? If the belt you have is that new I'd be tempted to retain the tensioners etc and just have belt, water pump and stat done and reduce the next change interval accordingly |

Hyjacking slightly....but conversely, my temp guage is not rising much about 60 degrees at the moment after being stuck firm at 90deg for the last 4 years. More noticeable now that outside temp is dropping, and the inside of the car is a little slower to heat up.
I assume this is suggesting the thermostat is close to jiggered? Can I leave until next service? Zip 2002 S8 |

If it helps i have been running cold for 12 months. I'm not suggesting you leave it that long but as far as i'm aware it hasn't damaged anything and to be honest it dosen't seem to have made much difference to fuel.

Went to change the thermostat today but theres no way i can get the bolts out, i have already twisted one torx bit and started rounding off the inside of the head with another. The only way i can see to get these out now is with a cold chisel or i take the front end off to get an impact driver in there.

I've got a set of screw extractors which dig their way into the damaged head and help remove a damaged screw/bolt - have you got anything like this Dezzy?
