Default Speedo has packed up

Hi all. a couple of weeks ago my speedo packed up on a short trip and then started working again.

Well this morning it has decided to pack up again and the same on the way home from work.

Also since the speedo packed up my fuel gauge seems to be fluctuating up and down slowly.

Any help much appreciated.

Oh yeah it's a PF 4.2 on a 99 plate

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I'm having this issue too. On first switch-on, the fuel gauge fluctuates, and the speedo is dead. Once the car is warm, fuel gauge dies altogether, and the speedo springs back into life.

I know that on BMW's the speedo doesn't work if theres an abs issue..

Could this be the same??

I could certainly see how the ABS wheel speed sensor could affect the speedo - but I don't see how this would also affect the fuel gauge?

I can live with no speedo for a couple of mins, but as things are I'm going to have to keep a record of what fuel is in the car, how far I've travelled, and hope that the MPG readout is somewhere near accurate.
