Well, I have to say I'm now three months into ownership of my Audi A8, and although I have not had the smoothest introduction to the marque due to a few niggles I have to say that I'm very happy with it. I bought the car to accompany my work which is basically a "Transporter" although I don't have the muscles of Frank Martin, and I'm not able to kill endless amounts of east European henchmen!
![]() ![]() So yesterday I had a contract to get two packages to Bristol Airport. I managed to start from Cornwall (my home) and I set the cruise control to a steady 70 mpg's when on the dual carriageway, and off when not. and after the 6 hours and 16 minutes of driving where my average speed way at 49 mpg's, my standard 3.0 TDi V6 managed to cover the 382 miles averaging at 40.3 mpg's which I have to say for a car weighing in at 1,990 kg's I was more than happy with. ![]() ![]() If others can add a brief description of what their Audi A8's are doing this will give us all an over view of the realistic economy from the various engine put in these cars by Audi. Might even help others to purchase one of something else that they believe to be more economical. ![]() ![]() Regards, Mark.

It's got full tints on all windows, and has the black leather interior. Remapped by Elite Automotive in Cornwall, giving an increase output to 290bhp/450lbs. Options: Keyless Entry & Start, Bluetooth Hands Free, Quad Zone Climate, 3 Spoke Sports Tiptronic Multi Function Steering Wheel, Black Leather Comfort Seats, AMI, Drivers & Passenger Electric Memory Seats, Auto Dimming Mirrors, Bi-Xenons. Future Plans: Selling my current Audi A8 Quattro Sport and replace is with a newer D4 Audi A8L with the 4.2V8 Twin Turbo setup once again it must be black. I'm looking for one with the options added where it has the rear recliing seats, with heated outers. Bose speakers minimum and B&O's if affordable. Rear and back door sun blinds prefered. Planned Mods: Upon the arrival of my A8L D4, I will be once again having the ECU remapped to a performance setting over economy. Rear Tints as dark as can go whilst also tinting the front windows with a medium tint. Once again I will be purchasing lowering links for the air ride suspension and setting it at 55mm lower when in comfort as my desire rideheight over standard. Alloys will be 21" however the one current most likly to be the next car already has a brand new set of 2016 S8Plus wheels on it. Great little website!
![]() ![]() ![]() I've noticed that you average is quite a bit lower that the mid to late 30's and early forties that I get from my 3.0 tdi, I thought the fuel economy from the Diesel V8 was better than that, I was under the impression it was within 10-15% of the 3.0 TDi ![]() Regards, Mark

Lee, those must be US gallon figures? I can see you've filled up as much as 20.77 gallons, in imperial gallons that would be 94 liters
![]() ![]() Mark, the onboard computer MPG figure is not very reliable... you'll want to calculate the actual MPG yourself between fill ups. In my 4.2TDI I get typically around 28mpg average, with mix of town and motorway. On a Motorway only it will be a lot higher of course, but I've never done a full tank on motorway only. The computers says 35mpg average on a motorway. Oh and I never do 70Mph on cruise control, more like 80 ![]()

I think it displays whatever YOUR web browser is set to on the Fuelly page. Mine is displaying UK gallons and litres and yes, the last fill was 73.2 litres.
![]() I have had as low as 24 mpg and as high as 36 mpg. That DIS thing on the dash is useless really. It gives you a vague, general ball park figure, but you have to measure and calculate the old fashioned way to be accurate. I always fill to the brim and record the mileage. It's very accurate and indeed it does make you realise just how much you're burning. No doubt I could get her up into the 40s, but I don't lose sleep over it. I'd have bought Prius if I were that way inclined. For the performance of the thing I think 30 - 35 mpg is quite acceptable.

I've found the unit links on the left side of the Fuelly web page - makes sense now

Why bother? - you drive an Audi 8!
If it's a petrol 8, you didn't buy it for that reason (especially if it's an S8). If it's a diesel, well…. Discuss... |
