Bunk beds

So, latest status:

Fuel line clamps are done.

Brakes are done, but we have a sticky nsf caliper which needs investigating.

The cylinder-specific misfires are caused by bad ignition modules. Cyl 4 (worst misfire) is driven by channel 2 on module 1. Swap them over and the misfire moves to cyl 3 - driven by channel 2 on module 2. Its also reporting random multiple misfires (which wasn't solved by replacing the fuel) so all channels on both modules are suspect.

The ABS module is showing 'return pump v39 intermittent' and looking at the data, the relay is chattering on and off. At the same time it and the TCU are also showing 'brake switch F implausible' - a very common problem which is also evident in my D2 and the C5 in the pic so three of those on order. I'm hoping the ABS controller is being confused by the switch and once thats fixed it'll stop chattering the relay. Hopefully...! The relay for the solenoid valves is also showing a problem though which is less hopeful. We'll find out tomorrow.

When ignition amplifier failed for 1 cylinder on mine it was also showing multiple random misfires on other cylinders. I guess un-burnt fuel and oxygen enters exhaust and affects lambda readings, ECU adjusts it wrong and non optimal fuel/air mixture throws up odd misfire in other cylinders. If there are a lot of misfires ( I think it was 100 or 200 in 1000 engine revolutions) ECU turns off injection for that cylinder to save catalyst from un-burnt fuel and switches to open loop and can cause an odd misfire on other cylinders again. After I replaced 1 ignition amp other misfires disappeared as well.

Mine had intermittent issue first gradually getting worse, I think amps develop dry joint in inner connections over time. I saved my old one and was going to cut it open and investigate but never got round it and don't even know where is it now or if I still have it.

Thanks for that ^ I found a bit of info on dry joints on other forums so I may have a look inside one

It's Alive!
Michaela has worked wonders but with ingenuity and sheer hard work Dezzy's bus is off to MOT Friday.

It's required the addition of an ABS pump but it drives. The replacement ignition amps cured the misfires completely. Which is nice!

Unfortunately celebrations are somewhat premature The road test showed up fuel delivery and electrical issues as it barely made it back to the workshop, so fuel filter tomorrow. Hopefully its not the fuel pump...

I replaced the fuel pump a few years ago and she gets funny about running on a low tank even after playing with the pump assume 3 times and feeling it seat properly, I think, maybe. Ate you sure you're thrashing it hard enough? It likes a good thrashing. Maybe it's still got its ass in its hand about being laid up for so long.
Pump was a genuine Siemens.
