Default Lambda probe replacement B1, S1

It would seem that the pre-cat lambda probe on Bank 1 is failing, currently flagging intermittent faults which cause the CEL to come on. Clear the fault and it will pop back up again 100 miles or so later. Whilst the probe itself does not seem to expensive to get hold of, how difficult is access to change Bank1, Sensor 1.

Default O2 sensor

O2 sensor isn't easy to access from top or bottom....however if you take out the inner wheel arch towards the read of the front wheel...there is a cubby hole you might be able to go through to it.

Is bank 1 sensor 1 driver's side? If so I watched my local mechanic undo it using a crow's foot and a wrench extension. Only things removed were air box and plastic intake tube if I remember correctly. Its tight in there but doable from the top.
The passanger side was also done from above, he removed the secondary air pump pipe for that bank only (the small metal fitting attached to the rear of the block).

I got one similar to this,

I do believe that bank 1 is UK drivers side. My car is having some more work done tomorrow discovered during its service last week, and I am away this weekend so will take a look in a week or so.

Well as expected after 200 miles my engine light is back on again, it spends more time lit than off these days. I'll scan it with VCDS later and see if what it is this time, I suspect cats and lambda again. The cat fault does not bother me, since it easily passes the MOT emissions test. The lambda does though, since its the pre cat and could be affecting fuelling.

Looks like its Bank 2 Sensor 1 that is the issue.

16814 - Catalyst System; Bank 2: Efficiency Below Threshold
P0430 - 35-00 - -
16804 - Catalyst System; Bank 1: Efficiency Below Threshold
P0420 - 35-00 - -
17539 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor; B2 S1: Internal Resistance too High
P1131 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent

You may as well change both pre-cat lambdas at the same time. My Bank 2 went, and within a few months the bank 1 sensor went too. Same as yours intermittent fault kept coming back.
Also best to get new ones, I tried a second hand one at first and that was triggering the fault code too.

Same experience here. Change both together.
