What is this 'hand-book' you speak of?

Like IT Ian, I LOVE my sunroof, and would never buy car without.....despite now needing regular and liberal applications of Factor 30 on my bonce....!!!

My initial one was metal but now I have a glass (solar) sunroof. Fitting is the same IIRC.

The subtle difference will be that the fabric cover on the metal and solar roofs is attached by the clips The Laird refers to whereas on the glass roof, I guess, the cover is manually operated to allow light in with the glass roof closed?

I am guessing the roof may be catching on the wind deflector causing a hard jam rather than anything particularly serious. There are little tabs on each side of the deflector and if they are damaged then the deflector can move out of position.

I know the tabs you mean - one has snapped off. Been meaning to contact our sponsors for a new deflector. May well be that, but I don't think it has moved out of position.

Does the sunroof have an anti-trap function like the windows?

The sunroof on the D3 has trap protection, not sure of the D2 but its very similar in operation.

It is likely to have an anti finger jam function to stop the motor. If you can wind it open manually you'll be able to feel extra resistence if something is jamming. If the wind deflector has a broken clip I would remove it completely for now. Just unhinge the unbroken clip and the deflector will pull towards the back of the car - at the back it just clips under some brackets

I got a spare with my solar sunroof and replaced my broken one completely. Not sure if I kept the old one for the solo good clip - I suspect I binned it....

Sorry to take your thread off topic again Zip, but it appears I'm not quite as stupid as we all thought (maybe). Mine doesn't tilt. I've tried every conceivable variation of twisting, turning, pushing & pulling on that control, but it only moves one way and that is a slide. Perhaps one day I will read this 'hand-book' you speak of. Just thought I'd share. Now back to topic.......

I've had three 2002 '8s and the sunroof tilted in them all. I suspect yours is broken Prof.

My glass roof has hard 'velour' trim around the inside edge of the roof, and a sort of bellows section either side that expands up as the roof tilts up. I presume the screw heads for removing the panel are under there but I don't know how to remove it without breaking it.

Anyone know how? Ian?

Ta,
Z
