Default Cruise Control Module

Hi Guys,
Hoping someone can help me locate this.

I have a Pre FL, so the vacuum type unit

I have followed all the threads on here showing possible location, for example.
1. Right hand side of engine bay, where the Engine ECU and gearbox TCU sit.
2. Behind the glove box inside the car.
Neither place has the cruise control box visable.
My thought process now is that it maybe underneath either the Engine ECU or the Gearbox TCU.
Looking at IT Administrators post of inside the Plenum Chamber, where he takes the gearbox TCU unit out and the ABS/ESP ECU unit, there does not appear to be any other unit in there.
Before progressing further I would appreciate anyone advise on this.
Thanks,
David

It is DEFINITELY inside the ECU box under the bonnet, nearside near the bulkhead on RHD.
I replaced mine (bought one from A8parts of course) a few years back but got my local VAG independent to do it as it's right at the bottom and all the other ECU's have to come out first! Beyond my pay grade that.
LHD is a bit different and easier to get at, but in the same box.

Thanks HP Sauce,
Can you confirm if its under the Engine ECU or the Gearbox TCU, so that I don't have to pull it all out?

Sorry, no, you just need to pull them out in turn. I didn't do it myself as I couldn't see it with the cover off.

Where cruise is optionally fitted, it lives in the very bottom of the plenum chamber underneath the TCU and ECU. The box is tapered, narrower at the bottom so the smaller Cruise ECU fits in the there quite nicely.

If any moisture has ever made it into the chamber, gravity helpfully makes sure that the cruise module gets the brunt of it. On the plus side, issues with TCU and ECU's are very rare indeed

Pulling the modules out looks daunting but is actually pretty easy. 2 minute job.

Ahh search function worked

I just followed this thread http://forums.quattroworld.com/a8/th...96.phtml#19665 .... and yep, RHD are definitely different, and the otherside I could only see the ECU's ... so its buried under them?

I'll give it a go

Default Cruise - Repair

Mine went duff a good few years back, it's started by just dropping the cruise as you was going along...... resetting (cycle the switch to off on the stalk) (would fix it) but got worse and worse till didn't work at all.

I used a guide just like that one basically involved re-flowing the solder on 3 caps (maybe?) and have to say mine has never missed a beat since....

Perfect.

So did you fit yours in the end

It is buried at the bottom, underneath both. Removing the ECU's is really very easy, couple of screws and some multiplug connectors.

The Cruise ECU is much smaller, and lives in the bottom of the chamber, so may not be immediately obvious until you remove the other modules.
