What about these VAS5054A & ODIS 2 packages?
They can be had for £40-50 and in some ways look better that VCDS as they seem to work with guided fault finding - has anyone tried one?

I really love VCDS but they really need to sort their deficient coding and measuring block labelling out.

Doesn't ODIS require an online connection to VW?

Having read a number of adverts on AliExpress they have this note:

Quote:
VAS 5054A hardware support online coding, but our software does not support. Need get software from VW dealer for online coding function.
Which I assume is referring to this from the Volkswagen ODIS site?

Quote:
If you want to use the Offboard Diagnostic Information System software also for flashing or teaching the engine immobiliser, a separate authorisation for access (GeKo) to the systems of Volkswagen AG is required besides an online connection.

ive made the mistake beforehand of buying cheap interfaces only to have to buy another and then the proper one, costing me twice as much lol. Just human nature I suppose,

I didnt make that mistake this time, I bought genuine and no messing around trying to get drivers loaded and no messing getting it connected.

Downloaded the soft plugged it in, It found the interface, updated software and job done. Well worth the extra money im afraid,

Matt

+1 from me.
I raised the question on this forum 18 months back and after loads of advice bought a cable through Gendan. It worked straight out of the can, just like Matt.
But then I needed help, lots of help, mountains of it, and it all came from this wonderful useful forum.
Thanks every one.
I feel as though I have now made some really good and helpful friends.

Borys

If its a genuine one you can update it to the latest version which is 15.7.

You'll know if your supposed genuine cable is in fact fake because when you upgrade the software it will stop working.

There are no keys for genuine cables, it's all built in the cable, just download software and it works.
