On further reading of the MOT testers manual, they make no reference to the Cats that are fitted being type approved, only that the car still meets the required emissions standard.
The legislation only appears to ban the sale of non-type approved cats to owners of cars registered after March 2001, with the seller facing prosecution for this. Therefore having been put in touch with a friendly supplier, my car is to have two sports cats fitted next week, £650 all in.
