Drivers door handle fault - 02115 Locking unit for central locking

My driver's door is not opening with the keyless go. All other doors are working fine and it opens from the inside.

I had my indy have a look at it, he had the following reading from his VAGCOM: 02115 Locking unit for central locking - implausible signal.

I understand this is an issue and the door motor/module needs replacing. Got a quote from the dealership and it's €230 incl VAT. I spoke with one of the Ebay sellers and they said they have a few in stock. I might save a few quid by going second hand but would that be false economy? Just suck it up and go for the brand new part? Wondering anybody any experience of this issue...cheers
