Default How can I check PCV valve for correct operation

I need to check my PCV valve for correct operation, from what I can see of the clips used currently it must be the Audi original one and that has been on for just short of 177K miles.

If I remove the valve from the vertical metal tube and try to start the car, it stalls but runs fine when plugged onto that tube.

How can I test the valve is running as intended?
