+1. Mackies is top of my list (complete rebuild and servicing annually thereafter), though I know that Guy does a good job.

Ooops!!
Complete misunderstanding.
I was not decrying Mackie's or any other.
I was trying to say that with Guy it is a one stop for anything A8. When I'm in Swindon Guy manages to sort any and all other niggles that mine is suffering from at the same time, without the stealer prices.
Hope that clarifies my point.

No misunderstanding from me Ray - we're just openly sharing our experiences of where we've had good service from good suppliers, which is what the forum should be about. I've never used Guy for this work, though I obviously know him well and respect him, whereas I'd wholeheartedly recommend Mackies from experience (like Jim).

I suspect both would do a good job in this instance - I personally went for Mackies based on the recommendation here, a less than perfect experience with Chester Transmissions beforehand, and - probably most importantly - the 3 year 100k warranty on the gearbox rebuild offered by them

OK, I've been researching this topic for a while and ended up stumbling across an answer from Honest John, who recommended someone for Transmission servicing in Surrey - King Automatics (www.kingautomatics.co.uk).

I sent an email enquiry and got a reply from a different garage in Wimbledon. He said this was their new name. (www.wimbledonautomatics.co.uk) The guy really sounded like he knew his stuff - he knew to use the correct LG fluid. He quoted me £270 to change the fluid and filter in the S8. When I enquired about the sucky/blowy thingy, he responded that the machine works by adding pressure at the cooler line to flush the fluid through. He was happy to do it for an additional £70 (IIRC) to cover the additional fluid required.

He said it would take a couple of hours for the Volvo and a little longer for the Audi.

I should point out that he quoted me a cheaper rate because I wanted to have both the Audi and the Volvo done.

Has anyone heard of them/used them?

Looks like they have been going 32 years which is a good sign.

Thanks for the check, that's useful information.

I was amazed by the reviews they get on Google too. There's only 15 of them, but they're positively glowing... I just hope the didn't write them themselves!

Expensive though. IIRC, Mackies is around £160 for the full treatment.
