Manual swap a8L

Well, the factory used an oil cooler everything from the 180hp 2.5TDI and up. Its hard to say whether it would be up to the job without the cooler unless you measure it once it's built. Worst case, you would have to swap to an A6 version with the cooler, but its probably worth a try without.

Thanks for the info unfortunatley i have the wrong diff so Will be needing that too and i looked up cost for bringing that junk car home and its pretty much the same cost as the car so Will be holding off on buying the car and hope to find one with the propper gearbox and diff that i need Will probably go for a a6 2.5 tdi as you mentioned. Atm planing to do the swap summer 2023 so plenty of time to find the ideal parts

Would a gearbox and diff from another c5 work? Or is there some reason to only use the tdi stuff? Otherwise i can look att 2.7 2.8 3.0 Cars Adele.

The 2.7TT C5 is actually one of the closest gearboxes to the factory S8 manual, along with the B5 S4, so if you can find one of those that's perfect. You'd get a nice spread of ratios with a slightly higher cruising rpm than you have now. The C5 diff works in the D2 as well.

2.8 afaik was only 5 speed. The 3.0 does appear to have come with the 01E, but I've never seen one so may be a Euro market thing again. No idea what the ratios on that would be like.

The reason to use the TDI stuff is that its slightly stronger and used to be very cheap. The high 6th looked like a good thing until I drove it and realised it wasn't.

Ow that’s nice those are not to uncommon I actually found a c5 s6 box that should work right? Also found a cheap ish rs6 auto diff and that is listed as 37:9 which i think is a 4.111 diff right? I know the guy with rs6 engine in his s8 here in Sweden is using tdi box with rs6 diff

C5 S6 manual? Thats an incredibly rare thing of myth and legend! The ratios on that are nigh identical to the S8 manual so that would work. The only thing special about the RS6 diff is the heatsink on the bottom which isn't needed for normal applications, but if its cheap there's no reason not to use it.

Thank you so much for all the info you’re great I feel like I have a grip on the engines but the gearboxes are a bit of a mystery.
