Funny you should mention the XFR, I was in a brand new one the other day as a passenger. My mates brother works in the HQ and had borrowed one to take upto Liverpool or Blackpool for the Evoque launch, and yes it sounded nice and went well and looked good in white, quality still not up there but I should have said I like modern day Jags (thank you India) probably more so then modern day Audi models to be honest. Yeah the old XJ is nice, untill you sit in an A8 IMO. I'm not sure what model XJ6 your talking about Sloss, but the mid 90s (D2 rivalling) ones at the same friends dads place (Jag indie) are all terrible inside and he reckons they drive like a boat compared to the mighty D2. Each to their own though.

Funny how its the Jag that caught our attention here, but then that was a beaut. And didn't it look great in those red train wheels. Cream interior with red piping. The hard top XKS like so many Jags, started well at the front, but what a horrible *rse!!!
My 750L (5.0 V12) Beemer could leave my brother standing in his XJS (5.3 V12) Les Mans. His could only fit 2 people and had lots of lovely rusting screw heads on view. Sloss. Jap cars. That piece on TG with the Jag and the Nissan. I want the GTR. 0-60 in 3 seconds. Yes please ![]() THREE seconds for Gods sake, and it's £30k LESS than the Jag

Just watched it (recorded).
The S8 caravan train was funny and also demonstrated the power of quattro. Whilst watching the GTR and XKR-S, I couldn't help thinking "give me an R8 V10 any day" despite acknowledging the superiority of the GTR...and then all this talk of Jaguars took me back to my childhood (showing my age now!) and the sound, poise, and sheer eloquence of a V12 E type - bring it on! ![]()

Always wanted a Skyline.. and the GT-R is an awesome bit of kit, but no way could I live with it as a daily, and can't afford one as a weekend car, so it'll need to be a fantasy for a while longer

Yes, and having had a couple of 360 bhp S8s and three 370 bhp XJRs of the same vintage, I have to say that the XJRs devour the S8s when it comes to straight line performance. Even an amateur can get the XJR to 100 mph in 13 seconds on a dry road. No chance of doing that in the S8. Having said that, I'd sooner have an S8--less skill required to keep it on the road.

The Jags I was talking about were 1960s and 70s. Wonderful cars but there were few imports to gauge them against.
I agree that Nissan is something else but not as a daily driver. By the way, I've gone off the big Merc CL idea after Clarkson's wee ignition coil problem! I seem to remember the E-Type being touted as capable of going from stopped, to 100mph and back to a stop in 20 seconds. I wonder what that Nissan could do that in? Probably under 10 ish? ![]()

Ah, so I'm not so crazy after all. I did say my lifetime. I wasn't around in the 60/70s or even the 80s for that matter (sadly)
![]() That Nissan is awesome, the first Jap car I've ever wanted and I would have it over an R8 V10 but not a 997 turbo S. As Top Gear is mainly for entertainment, I bet the quote for the ignition coil was from a Merc dealer and enthusiasts like us could get one sourced and fitted for a heck of a lot cheaper.

X308 XJR around a 2002 vintage, in black with black interior. Nice. Unreliable, rusty, still has the electrical gremlins, nikasil issues (if not addressed by now), auto-box issues and poor interior leather quality, but still a very nice car.
I'll get me coat. ![]()

Nikasil issues were addressed before 2002 on both Jaguars and BMW V8s. My XJRs were all pre-2000 and all three of them had new engines fitted under warranty/goodwill--one of them at 5 years old.
