Question is it true that the m6 toll is an autoban ?

i spoke to some one that once was working on the m6 toll and he sed that its a private road its not owned by the goverment and thats why you pay and there are no speed restrictions on the m6 toll and also no enforcements in place also no markings to indicate the speed you should be doing and essentially its a unrestricted road but they dont advertise it of course as being such a road
now is there any kind of truth in this or do i need the spade to clean up this horse ####

? im not convinced, but thinking about it i can not ever recall seeing any police on the toll roads ?

I've seen someone pulled over on the M6 toll and various people going down at 130+ mph too.

I don't buy it - yes it's a toll road, but the roads legislation applies to any road not classified as 'private' and all national speed limits are defaults unless signed otherwise (so 70mph in this case)

However, I have on occasion had cause to abuse said toll road and have never seen one of her maj's constabulary (marked or unmarked) on it.

I suspect if there was you'd get properly 'done' but the chances are probably a little lower than the M6 itself

It's just down the road from me (6 miles). Iv'e seen the police parked on bridges above it, but never on. Having said that I'm certain I've read that exactly the same road rules apply.

There's a certain way to find out though. Anyone game for it?

well i can't say i have not use'd my fair share of odd excuses with the local law enforcement however i some how think it would be plain stupid if they were to ask why i was doing 140mph and i reply'd with ( Oh is it not legal officer ? my friend told me ........ )
would more than likely end up with a reply of ( well if your friend told you to jump off a bridge ect....

will give it a miss of course but thought it was worth asking

I was told the same thing years ago, and although i did push it a few times i was vary wary of this pub tale.

i used to use the M6 a lot, rarely saw police on it, but there is a bridge just as the M6 proper feeds back in where they sit with radar and use a chase vehicle half a mile up the road to do the stopping.

Partly true but there was legislation passed through parliament to make it the same speed as the motorways
