Now THIS is a garage! It's part of a Cala development near me. The garage is big enough for an 8 (5.44m deep) and it has a "recreation room" above it with en-suite shower/toilet. A kind of built in "dog-house" . You could just casually mention that you were going out to do something in the garage and not come back for a week!

Of course, you could bust through the ceiling to install a lift, eh John?

Also a pole would be fun to slide down into your garage for quick getaways lol

Around me the house would be about £1.5million extra after buying the garage.

1998 D2 PF S8. Agate Grey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, Tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)

And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

Sod all really. Despite all the NIMBY's whinging.
A lot of them forget that the desirability of the area is heavily influenced by existing rail & tube lines (pretty noisy ones too!) into the West End and City of London. And they build houses right up to them and they command a premium becuse they're near the station!

Around me it'll be in a deep tunnel anyway, which would have been only 30 metres along the road from my house, but is now another 200 metres further away.

I do know someone who has a house way out in the country that will be just a few yards from the line in a shallow cutting. If it happens (or he wants to move beforehand) he'll be bought out at a "fair" price. Whether that will suit at the time one can't tell.

sounds good then, and yes I had not really appreciated the irony in the being near a station/train line in your garden stuff TBH. Your friends situation sounds a bit less clear cut, just hope whatever happens he is happy at the outcome. Remember my first flat many years ago was in spitting distance from the main Glasgow to Edinburgh line and after a few months I hardly noticed the trains going passed, though I do suspect that was somewhat due to the alcohol consumption back then knocking me out most nights, ahh the good old days anyway off for a bucket of Horlicks and bed now Ohh and that Cala garage is probably bigger than that first flat

I once lived in a basement flat that was effectively a "bridge" over the District & Circle Line in London, so the trains were just a few inches under my bed!
And the photo is an aerial view of a row of houses backing onto a railway embankment where the tracks were at gutter height. I slept in the back extension maybe 30 feet from heavy goods trains that ground through (lots of metal noises due to the bend) all night.
Soon got used to both.
