Default excessive oil consumption 2008 A8??

??? re 2008 A8 and excessive oil consumption. Had oil changed 2k miles ago and 90k service done. I added 2 quarts of oil b/c it was low and there are no signs of leakage in my driveway. Any ideas?

What's quart? But it could be that they simply didn't put enough oil in at the service and once the engine has run, then the oil filter fills up (if it was installed 'dry') and your oil level is low. Does the handbook tell you how big the oil filter is (in terms of capacity?).

A quart is 2 pints... Around a litre and a bit.

If you had to put 2 litres in, then they've either not filled it up, you've overfilled it, or there's a leak, most likely around the oil filter.

Might sound unlikely but mine did this.

Turned out to be a buggered catalytic convertor. It was causing excessive (or not enough) back pressure.

Oil consumption went through the roof.

Assuming that the OP is from the US, a quart in that case will be less than 1 litre, something like 950mls. Which while a manufacturer may claim is within normal limits, does seem unusual if the car wasn't using any before.

Ouch just re-read, damn near two litres... Something not right there, how much was put in at the service, does it state on the invoice?
