Been a lot of wind from a northeasterly direction recently and if you have that for Loch Ness you'll fly down the loch side, however it makes for a tough return to the finish line. With a bit of luck there will be our usual southwesterly and that will get you back to base with ease

Half the return is downhill so not so worried, it's the big hill climb that's the only concern, but contemplating putting the compact back on the bike which will make it a skoosh.

Just looked at the hill profile on Strava.. It's not quite as scary as I thought.. though it is 5 miles long and a Cat 2 hill

Had a dental appointment on Tuesday, I was sitting in the chair having my tooth drilled when I started feeling rather warm, (I have been known to faint in the dentist before but it hasn't happened for about twenty years but I am always on the lookout for the symptoms) so I say to the dentist I'm feeling rather warm, he stops and I start feeling better, back to drilling and I start feeling hot again, so he stops and again I cool off. Then I remember taking my specs off and handing them to his assistant. Next thing I remember is coming round screaming as loud as I can with a pain between my shoulder blades, like someone was stabbing me and twisting the blade...real agonising intense pain. I had to get up from lying down but couldn't move I was stuck, slowly and carefully I eventually I managed to get into a position that my head was between my legs and I was supporting my head with my hands. I couldn't let my head go as the pain was too much.
The dentist called the ambulance and the quick response team arrived on bikes and started doing checks, I still couldn't move I was stuck in the one position, the Q.R. guys checked my blood pressure which was very low and pulse which was also very low and when the ambulance arrived they decided to give me gas to ease the pain, only I couldn't breath in deep enough for the gas to work. Because my pulse and BP were so low there was concerns as to giving me a morphine injection and after a bit of deliberating decided that they would go ahead and jab me, this was enough to allow me out of the dentist chair and into the ambulance. Once in the ambulance the paramedic spent ages wiring me up to various machines and gave me an ECG and there was something showing that he thought might be caused by a heart problem. He then sent the results to Hairmyres and The Golden Jubilee heart hospitals and awaited confirmation of where I had to be taken. I was whisked off to Hairmyres and when I arrived I was taken into emergency where they started removing my clothes and sticking wires all over me, I was given a 2 x Coronary Angiography s, 2 x MRI scans, they took numerous blood samples asked a million questions. I was put into a separate ward room and more tests, then a CT scan another ECG and more blood tests...All came back negative which was good news. Wednesday morning I was given another Xray as they suspected a clot at my lungs was the cause of the back pain but the results came back clear. The doctor then decided it was safe for me to leave and I was given some Co-Codamol and sent packing still in agony. Thursday morning Liz phoned my GP and he came to the house and after an examination said that quite often what happens with low heart rate and blood pressure is that fainting can cause muscles to go into spasm, seems thats what has happened to me and I am now on Dihydrocodeine and Diazepam to give me some pain relief. I suppose the good news is that my arteries are clear, no furring no clots nothing after all the years of smoking also my heart is healthy and strong. I do wonder what the results would have been a year earlier if I had still been smoking Enough ranting and rambling from me, I'm doped up with these drugs right now but just thought I would let you know what's been happening...won't be doing any cycling for a few days, possibly weeks

Scary story, John. Hope you're feeling a little better now.
I've suffered from muscle spasms in my back as well and your description of the pain being like knife being twisted is just how I've described it. Take care! ![]()
