Just checked mine out for curiosity sake and I noticed that when opening the door the rear centre light did not go on but did if i operated the front light switch. The reading lights operated independently OK. All of which, i guess, are the same symptoms yuo both describe. However, by giving the switch a good working out, normal service was resumed after a short while. So it may be a corroded contact issue?
