Thanks I've been looking around...... it does appear worryingly straight forward.

I shall now officially enter the period of customary dithering whilst creating a plausible (to me) explanantion for SWMBO as to what I'm doing, how much it costs, why I'm doing it, how much it costs and how much it costs. Then I can decide whether to have this friendly casual conversation before or after I've bought it....... by which time they'll all be gone and I can start all over again with DAB.

I did something similar .... I had the Wrx Sti advertised it for sale without her knowing of course... told her i was going to see some friends in wrexham .. met the chap half way sold the subaru and then got on a bus to continue ... met the chap with my D2 and enjoyed what was to me a magic carpet ride home ... parked on the drive proceeded to go indoors as normal .. dinner was on the table .. nothing out of place everything was normal .. half way through eating my tea (she who must be obayed : I need some butter for the jacket spuds )
( me ..riding on the seat of my pants at this point with still no idea on how i was going to brake the news ....)
Oh il get that deer .. ( not wanting her to see out of the window at the new car on the drive )

Following morning Im sleeping ( slam bang wollop up the stairs bedroom door opens ( at this point .. (i knew) the dog house was evidently coming my way. .. commence F..ing and blinding and swearing and abuse ect ..

i then get up and dressed and go to work ... 10 mins later phone call where are you .. ( me urrmm at work
( her) ohh i didnt hear you leave
(me ) of course not its an A8
(her) im still mad at you... can you come take me to work ?
(me) urrm what in this monstrosity ? this barge this heap of $hite ive spent my hard earned cash on...my hard earned cash.
(her) Yes please
(me) shake head in shame and think why... why me .. what did i do so wrong

2 years later me selling the D2
(her) No way am i letting you sell that car its the best car we have ever had
(me ) What this heap of $hite ? and wast of money ?
( her ) Her fcuk off that was years ago ...

and then arrived the thirsty W12 .... and the process cycled yet again !

moral of the story ..... I Got rid of the wife .. and the W12 makes me Smile every day (more than she ever could )

if in doubt ... sling the wife out

I just didn't ask or warn, it saves all that pre-purchase inquisition.
And once it's there and they've been for a ride it soon stops.
SWMBO often nods off on even a short journey and when she wakes up I always remind her she never did that in any other type of car we had.

2003 D2 FL S8. Irish Green Pearl/Beige. Solar sunroof, auto-dim mirrors, electric rear seat functions and extended leather. Ski hatch retrofit. Aftermarket reversing camera. DVB-T and XCarlink now removed as redundant.
2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". (Even rarer than a D2 S8!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one!
Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. Agate Grey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, Tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon. Added Auto-dim mirror, Leather seats, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

heres a similar story for Audio Visual

I think a projector would be nice on that wall

we dont need one

it would be nice

i dont want a projector, we dont need one, do not get a projector

SHE WENT AWAY FOR THE WEEKEND, arrived back to a new projector all installed up on the ceiling, tucked away nicely so not hugely visible

there was also a new popcorn hour iinstalled but all nicely hidden in the cabinet, just didnt mention it at all, and just made out it was there fo ages

anyway, she liked it,

the following weekend i put in freesat, excuse was one of her friends had broken my hdd recorder.

2 weeks later thought it would be good to upgrade the old TV, she didnt want a new tv, she now had the idea of getting rid of the one we have and watching only the projector.

fortunately she had another trip to london coming up so it wasnt long before the new tv was in as well

then came the bose speaker system

all works from a logitech 1000 remote, including the fireplace and dimmable lights etc.

she moaned a bit, until her friends started coming round to watch movies on saturday nights at the "cinema".

then you would have thought she had planned the entire system herself

mine doesnt like change, so i have to listen to "its nice, but i prefered the last car, i miss that"

i take no notice now, shes done it to every car ive had, when it comes time to get the D4, the same thing will occur

i shall probably just arrive home with it one day
