I'm currently playing with automatic control of my tram layout. Building and testing various modules that won't do exactly what I want but a step in the right direction.

Good luck with the auto control

Nice! What filament is that? I take it you didn't have any problems with the filament bunching up after the extruder gear?

I haven't tried TPU on the Ultrabase. I was still printing on glass when I tried the Ninjaflex. Normally I just clean it with IPA, but prints rarely leave any residue - they just pop off when it cools down. The only one which has left anything behind is ASA and that stuck to the surface so well I though it was going to remove the coating when it came off. I won't be using that on the ultrabase again - I'll probably get some Buildtak or something sacrificial if I need to use ASA.

I haven't tried ABS on the ultrabase either actually. Something to play with once my new X carriage is built.

Will see if Ihave any IPA - prolly not.
It is well stuck on - might try and heat the base to its top setting and see if this helps to get it off.

The product is Bendlay - a modified ABS - so probably not a good start - looks like I ordered the wrong one as they do a Bendlay Flex - DOH
Have ordeed a sample of NinjaFlex to see how that fairs.

Its a good start though since ABS is a pain to print too! Is it flexible?

If it is ABS-based then acetone will dissolve it although what that will do to the Ultrabase I don't know. I have some acetone here so I'll try it on a corner of mine and see what happens.

Ninjaflex is literally like wet noodle. Suitably enthused by your success, I might order some Fillamentum Flexfill and see what that does

The legs move around but the body is solid.
Let me know how you get on with the acetone - if it works then will give is go tonight

Used some acetone and this worked.
Trying out another print and adhered with no issues - cheers MJ

Major crap

Printed something out last night after cleaning the new base plate and all went well.
Started to print something else about 15 minutes later and it didn't sound good so stopped it after a few minutes.

Reason it didn't sound good was it was chewing into the just bought base plate:

Cleaned it up and tried again and any tricky parts it needs to print won't work in that area

I did see on the web site that you can sand (gently) the surface to get back its properties so may as well try that next...........

One step forward and ... etc

Oh dear Andy.
Crap happens, wish you luck.
I built two relay modules yesterday for the trams, each with 8 relays. Tested OK and working with the controller I built on Wednesday.

Last night started negotiations with my son to see what we are going to do with the 3D printer. He has found some parts in the States but the supplier does not ship to UK?????
Always problems.

Ray - I have friends in the US. What is it you're after?

Andy - is that from the printer nozzle scratching the surface or residue from a previous print?

MJ you are the super star that I thought you were. XXXXXX
I have an old Army College buddy in Toronto and was planning on seeing if they'd ship to Canada.
If needs be I'll avail myself of your good services.
When we decide what we finally want I'll contact the firm and see what we can arrange. It could be that they have simply not updated their order form.
Not everyone is as good as you.
I'll stop polishing your CV now.
