This is the template I've been using - calculates how wayward the DIS is based on full tanks

Left one set of values in - most fields auto fill

Default Ouch! £112 to fill the old girl with 60 miles range left

Shell Nitro+ slipped in the tank for a trip down to Sherborne. I normally use V-Power anyway and the journey went well. I didn't really notice that much of a difference if I'm honest but then I've always had a preference for Shell fuels.

I do notice a massive difference if I have to fill up with normal unleaded, as the car doesn't feel as responsive as when she's loaded to the gunwhales with super unleaded.

Just my two penneth.

I put Nitro in the car for the first time last Friday afternoon, on a fast cross-country drive from Belper to Manchester, and it seemed better - smoother, quicker and pulling more strongly. Mind you, it was probably the first "spirited" drive I've had since the gearbox and cambelt done, and the weather was ideal, but I think the fuel did contribute to the fun I was having

As one of the original cynics, I filled up with Nitro on leaving Eaglescliffe after the PMS meet. (I had used BP Ultimate on the way down) and I did notice a difference between that and the normal petrol i use which - due to availability and the lack of choice - is normally 95RON. It was more responsive and the occasional hestitation experienced with (because of?) the lower octane stuff was absent. Also absent was the engine managament light which has been on for a while due to the sports cats throwing a warning about lamda sensors bank 2 or whatever. So that was a plus too. and its stayed off.

The trouble with being a cynic is that you always take the view that some b@st@rd is trying to screw you and that all marketing/advertising is evil. I take the comedian Bill Hicks' point of view on this.

Going from v-power consistently to Nitro (1st tank still) I've noticed a slight improvement in low rev/low throttle response which may also be attributed to the warmer weather. My car ran extremely well on v-power so not expecting miracles

Now that would be an interesting claim to run past legal "also cures engine management light issues"

Glad it's working out for you - us marketers aren't all full of hot air you know...some of us genuinely love what we make and want to spread the gospel! I wouldn't pay the premium if I didn't believe in it

Well, perhaps the change in octane rating changed the residual oxygen levels being detected by the lamda sensor - tho' i guess the ECU should compensate for lower RON? Well, it disappeared anyway and hasnt returned.

I filled up with Sainsbury's super unleaded last night - which I very very rarely do (2nd time in 3 years, I think). Only did this time because it was 10p off a litre time, their site was already 3p per litre cheaper than elsewhere, and I was driving past.

I probably saved myself just over a tenner, but I don't think it was worth the saving - the engine sounds noticeably rougher, and the car's performance is significantly slower as a back-to-back comparison with the Nitro that was in it last week.

Ah well, only 400 miles till I can atone for this...

I've been putting that in my runaround, but it doesnt notice much difference. The 10p a litre is a huge saving its just too tempting isnt it, but I wouldnt put it in my 8 lol

Not quite V-Power, but I used to find that if went across to Germany and did a fair amount of driving in my old S6 4.2 on high octane fuel (if memory serves me correctly some places in Germany had 100 or 102 octane) that when I returned to the UK and used standard 95 octane, my engine would pink for a good while afterwards.
