Laminated glass is always a problem. I don't know why everyone says the a8/s8 has double glazing - it doesn't, and this film proves it.

The side windows are clearly two seperate peices of glass but if there is a sealed void between them on a D2 im not sure - what do audi claim in the brochuer? I suspect that as the side windows are as you say just laminated and not actually double glazed. still, not every car has laminated side windows does it!

the advertising blurb on the new A8 says

Double glazing as standard
A specially developed film forms the double glazing in the A8 and enhances your driving pleasure by minimising external noise, making the Audi A8 one of the quietest cars in the world. It also helps the electronic climate control to maintain a constant internal temperature.
Double glazing is standard across the A8 range.

I'm guessing that we are talking of 2 panes of glass joined by a film rather than a spacer and an air gap but giving twice the sound and security properties (or almost) compared to a normal side window

They look double glazed to me, clearly two panes of glass on my S8.

Hi Guys,

I guess it depends on your definition of Laminated & Double Glazed.

You can have single pane laminated glass, usualy for shatter resistance. The 'sticky backed plastic' layer is there to stop it all falling apart for safty.

Double glazing certainly has various materials between it, usualy a blend of gasses, but i don't see why having a film layer in the void stops it being double glazed. The glass is definately two panes and the change of density between them is what slows the sound penitration.

Either way, i think they are excelent. They stop noise and make the car a much more impenitrable place for burglers and for safety

google defined Double glazed as:

Definitions of Double glazed on the Web:

* When multiple glass panes or "lites" are assembled into units, they are commonly referred to as insulated glass, double glazing, Double Glazed Units (UK and Europe) or Insulating Glass Units (IGU) (North America and Australia).
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double_glazed

* Two panes of window glass or other transparent material.
resnet.us/lender/lhandbook/glossary.htm

So it guess as it does have two paines of glass it is double glazed?

Definitely double glazed on the side windows if you have the ones that appear to be 2 panes stuck together (I think it was only 2.8s that didn't come with it as standard).

I can't view the video untill i get home at the wk-end cause it's blocked here, but i have seen footage of someone hitting a D2 side window with a hammer maybe 5th gear or something. Is that the vid?

Twin pane, double glazed or laminated it's good that said mine has started to delaminate in a couple places near the top.

4KC = Side and rear windows in heat-insulatingglass
4KV = Side and rear windows in laminated glasswith metal layer

Don't know if these are the correct codes for D2 i don't have my car this week to have a look
