Default Yet more issues :-(

Not happy (not sure who with at the moment).

As some of you may know, I had to have a new steering rack fitted (which also required new track rod ends) and I thought all was OK.

Well, not long after having it done, I noticed what sounded like a creaking noise from the front nearside - I put it down to something being loose due to the pulling apart, then re-fitting etc.

The creaking has gotten a little louder and during the treasure hunt the other weekend, whenever I was turning right, a clunking noise came from the same area

Took the car back today and they put it up on the ramp - guess what - the steering rack I got from A8 Parts has a dodgy tracking rod (a little movement was visible and they reckon that that is where the creaking noise is from) and also the arm at the front top which ties the suspension, the ball joint had too much movement (the cause of the knocking noise).

So, tomorrow will see if A8 Parts can help and speak to the garage and see what liability they are going to own up to (I thought A8 Parts would check that the item was usable and the garage, once finished the job would check that everything was OK - clearly it was not)

Sorry for winging, but having spent quite a few bob on the car, was hoping not to put my hand in my pocket for quite some time

Spoke to A8 Parts this morning and told the story - they are shipping, for free the part that is needed - should hopefully get it in 2 days.

Is that good customer service or what

Will now argue with the garage that fitted the parts as surely they must have noticed this and if they didn't...........

depends on how well you know the garage I guess Andy but I'm betting they will say that as you supplied the part they have just fitted it. Hope they are more helpful than that though - let us know what they say!

Well, the part arrived from A8 Parts today and to say I am gobsmacked is an understatement................

They sent a whole steering rack - didn't expect that

Will speak to to the garage tomorrow and see where I stand

You should have enough spares to fix it now!

Well - the first replacement rack is leaking so will need to be replaced

Can't afford it this month so just going to have the front control arm changed then see how long it lasts (the fluid level hasn't budged, but you can see it on the gaiter and lower down) before it needs new oil

You could always try this in the meantime.

I picked it up from the local motor factors.

Is it any good?

Well, it stopped the leak but I don't know if it contributed to the demise of the steering rack. I don't think it did, it was probably just wear and that I have to do a lot of lock to lock low speed steering.

It's worth a punt for a tenner if the rack's knackered anyway.

I'll pick one up for you if you can't find it.

Let me know

Steve
