pulling away from the traffic lights on a slight hill in the town near where I live the car remains in 2nd when in auto ; if i change to manual it will change into 4th quite happily
does this sound right ? |

Not unusual, do you know what your gearbox coding is?
Also, what age is your car - why not update your signature with a few specifics? ![]()

DVB-T and XCarlink now removed as redundant. 2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". ![]() ![]() Finally: gone, but not forgotten..... 1998 D2 PF S8. Agate Grey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, Tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors. e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. ![]() 1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon. Added Auto-dim mirror, Leather seats, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer. And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850! |

I'm fairly sure mine displays the same behaviour and tends to lurk in gear for a while. It will eventually change gear when the road levels out a bit. It's some kind of hill-climb assistance built in to the gearbox/electronics from what I understand. I normally force its hand by whacking it across the H-gate and telling it what gear I require.

the temperature was very low when I noticed this , and the car had only run about a mile when i noticed ; maybe something to do with the transmission fluid temperature ? |
