MMI Screen repair
So I bought the brass gears and followed the instructions, in my hands everything opened and closed seamlessly...
BUT:

I did this a couple of years ago and found it to be a pig of a job. While I didn't have this specific issue, I had to disassemble and reassemble multiple times before it would stop opening or closing at the correct positions.

I also did this a couple of years back but didn't have any problems at all.
A piece of string had me fooled for a while whilst reassembling but I think it was an OEM thing to help hold everything together whilst putting it back. Sorry, I can't remember the details.

I have found the string as well, but did remove it as it does nothing in my opinion. Could be that the microswitch is bad? MMI mechanism has two of them, one for closed position and one for open.

This job hasn't needed doing on mine yet but from the video, is it possible that some gearwheel has been incorrectly installed causing it to continue on its travel even after it's open all the way?
