Modify stock exhaust boxes for more v8 burble?
There has been several different mods on here to give the 8 more of the lovely V8 burble.
What are peoples opinion on removing the stock exhaust, cut open the boxes(on the top so MOT people won't notice) remove all the extra stuff inside and re-route the piping inside if needed to get straight flow before welding it back together.. It sure would be cheap parts

Snap! I to have thought about doing this and I may have a go if I can get a S8 back box at a sensible price. But I'm not in an any rush and mot stations in the uk don't care anyway. I've put hole saws through DPF and cats before with excellent results. Not a mark on the outside!

I would suggest looking for a universal straight through exhaust box rather than cutting into your current one.
It will probably be cheaper and last longer than a modified version... However, if you do chop into it, you'll need to use perforated sections of pipe for the inside to allow some of the sound to expand into the silencer box. MG |

Someone has already done this and documented it nicely with photos. I was searching for it when I found this. It may be on Audiworld.

Emptying stock boxes bad idea, it will drone badly
Had that done, hated it |

Thanks for the reply !
Mine's a D3 - could make a difference - doubt it though. I DO want to avoid the drone like the plague; and like the toothpaste-back-the-in-the-tube, I doubt it'd be easy to replace the stuffin' on those boxes! but I still haven't found that thread... haven't been on much lately - no time to search... Thanks so much again & Merry Christmas Tom

It depends how the back box is made.
"Straight through" boxes use perforated pipes and still have sound deadening material in them. Done properly, I don't see why it should drone... Still, exhaust frequencies are a bit of a black art and manufacturers spend big $$ researching exhausts.
