Mine gets the same code if I'm a bit too keen on the shifter when changing direction. As long as I make sure it's fully stationary for a moment or two it seems fine. Thats user error though I haven't had it for a few weeks since I figured out what I was doing wrong!

I tried it several times today and its perfectly ok and normal until i select reverse and then there's a pause - a hard clunk and then it goes into limp mode. It doesnt seem to be dependent on how quickly i select it.
I have just contacted Maria at Prestige Motor Services (our illustrious sponsor) and whilst they have a couple of 8 pin/round plug F125s, they dont have any of the later 10 pin/flat plug switches which I suspect my Jul 2002 registered AVP/FBG car needs. Does anyone know how easy it is to check the connector type?

Buy a new one, not significantly more.

If I remember correctly, the connector is reasonably accessible, somewhere near the front n/s driveshaft. It would be worth taking it apart and giving the contacts a clean while you're there; that's always been the (temporary) cure for me.

Thanks Andrew/Mark for that. I have read the Audiforum "how to" but its not clear whether the connector itself is easily accessable.

My local independent cleaned and checked mine not long ago, made no comment on accessibility so I assume it's easy enough up on a ramp.
Mines a 10-pin as yours almost certainly is.

The connector is just in front of the left inner CV joint - thats easy to get to from underneath with the tray off.
The switch itself is an arse to get to though, as its behind the downpipe and gearbox mount. You need to lift the gearbox slightly and take the mount off to get to one of the bolts, and the downpipe obscures the other one. Probably a good hour's work to change it on a lift. Symptoms are identical to what mine was doing. I hope I'm right thinking it was user error, and not the switch failing on mine. How much are they new at the mo? |
