What a farce!
Ah, here it is - sorry, didn't realise it'd been moved!
You're gonna love this, I've been typing it for ages, not got half of it here yet (I'll take a hint if no one's interested, please say)! There's prob still loads of typo's sorry...here goes: Well, I got to the dealer, I hadn't signed an order form or signed the finance proposal (but had I passed the proposal for finance over the phone of course), given a deposit beforehand etc - and so they say the car's ready but needs to be valeted. They had called me just after I'd set-off saying that the tow-bar fitting was not quite finished but would likely be by the time I got there fingers crossed. So, this is exactly as it happened: Salesman: "So, the car just needs to be valeted" Me: "Ok, so how long then?" Salesman: "Well, it'll be an hour and a half" Me: "Really?" Salesman: "Yes, is that ok?" Me: "Well I suppose so, it's not like you're saying 4pm this afternoon" Salesman: "And then there's the Supergard after that" Me: "What? You said that was being done yesterday so it was dry by today!?" Salesman: Well, there were delays fitting the tow-bar" Me: "You said it's 4hrs labour to apply that Supergard - how are you going to do that in 90Mins?" Salesman: "Don't worry, I have a solution, I'll have the Valeters apply the external protection, it'll dry on your way home" Me: <Still in shock>"Er.." Salesman: "And as for the interior stuff, I'll give you all that to take home...and you can apply it yourself" Me: "What!?" Salesman: "Wait, I've not finished, I won't charge you for the Supergard" Me: "The point I'd like to make is that you said it was 4+ hours labour to apply the kit and.." Salesman butts in: "..yes but it's free - I can charge you if you want" Me: "Yes, but the product supposedly takes 4+Hrs to apply and now you're telling me you'll apply the exterior stuff in 90Mins and it can dry on my way home?" Salesman: "It's free - you don't have to have it" Me: "Er, well I've lost faith in the product but I suppose I could apply it myself - still not convinced about the exterior protection" Salesman: "It is free" Me: "Well, can I see the car please?" Salesman: "Sure, I'll take you through but do you want to sort out the paperwork first? It'll only take 10 mins or so - or you can go see the sites in the town and then do it later just before the car is ready?" Me: "Well, sure, maybe- but could I see the car 1st please?" Salesman: "Sure, I'll take you through to it now, but let me introduce you to the Finance Manager" Finance Mgr: "Hi nice to meet you" Me: "Hi, you look younger than I thought!" Finance Mgr: "Everyone says that - come in take a seat, we'll get the paper work sorted, have you got your drivers licence & ID?" Me: "Yes, there you go, I'll leave them here if that's ok, whilst I go take a look at the car?" Finance Mgr: "Sure, Ok, I should be with someone whose running late but should be ok" Salesman: "Ok, lets go see the car" <Banter on the way over to the valet bay> Salesman: "Ok, here it is" Me: "Why is there a scratch over 2 foot long on the bonnet!!??" "There loads more scratches al over the bonnet, not deep through to the undercoat - but still?" "Look at the drivers door - there more here!" "More on the drivers side rear door" Salesman: "I've honestly not noticed any scratches?" Me: "What?" Salesman: "Yes, I only checked the wheels, you were quite insistent about the condition of the wheels" Me: "Yes...and the rest of the car!" "Oh my god, look at the boot-lid!! - it's covered with excessive scratching everywhere! I've never seen a boot-lid like it!! - that probably needs to be painted?" Salesman: Well this light does show everything" Me: "How can you not have noticed this - it's only done 10k miles and it less than 18 months old? I'm amazed - my D3 with 81k was in much better condition than this honestly! I can't believe it - it took me 2 hours to drive here today and a day off from work" Salesman: "Well I've not deliberately mislead you" Me: "It's my fault, when I wrote to you TWICE asking you to walk around the car to describe every detail and you didn't, I should have insisted!!" Salesman: "Well it was going into the workshop..." Me: "There's more scratches on the other side, oh my god - look at the roof!!?" "How can you not have seen these?" Salesman: "Well I can that you're upset" Me: "Upset? I'm FUMING!!!" "Look the two plastic trims here <the plastic trims between the front & rear doors> they're badly marked as well.." Salesman: "..." <speechless - for a change> Me: "Look, I'm sorry, but I'm really REALLY annoyed, this car is £36k and I've then spent 2k with you on a tow-bar and other stuff - and right now? I'm so unhappy - I don't think I want it" Salesman: "Well, I'm sure there's something we can do, we're not saying we won't put it right" Me: <Still getting over the state of the car> "I can't believe how bad it is? How could you have not noticed it?" Salesman: "Well, if you feel strongly, I'll have a word with my Sales Manager" <So better post this might be too long - if anyone interested in this I'll post the rest> Last edited by Tj2k; 2nd March 2012 at 09:50 PM. |

And what did the sales manager have to say?

Definitely reject it. Full Stop.
Hire a car for a week or two, the price of the new one will probably tumble by enough to make up for it |

Definitely interested in seeing how much of an arse they're making of this... Sounds worthy of a name and shame too.
Mrs P has given my new car the thumbs up... Though my youngest is slightly disappointed by the reduction in engie noise, but loves the roasty-toasty rear seats

Trying desperately to work out if you're intentionally rubbing it in, or in some strange way offered that as a consolation... ??..

I'm car-less!
I was f***ing fuming!! It looked as though someone had got a Samsonite Holiday style suitcase, glued grit to it then dragged it all over the boot. Apparently, a bloke from Harrogate went to see it and told another dealer that has an identical car that it was really bad - apparently ge looked at it after I'd put down the deposit.. Don't get me wrong, they were mostly removable (though the scratches where very wide - and you could feel them under your fingernail - so through the lacquer) - but I was 200% that I didn't want nearly every panel mopped / abrasively polished. Then there's the risk of swirl marks - which I've had a 55 plate S4 Cab in black - when the car was same age as this is now... Lost count of how many times I told the dealer I was rejecting the car - they couldn't understand why! Richard, I know I keep saying this - but that D3 is lovely, I miss it already, especially after today! Last edited by Tj2k; 3rd March 2012 at 07:40 PM. Reason: Typo's and accuracy |
