If you think it's bacteria in the AC system, Ray's suggestion should work.

The AC bombs of the past have been remade and rebadged. Auto Glym does one that is sold in Halfords, they call it the air con sanitiser. STP do one too.

I've used the Auto Glym one - worked really well.

Last week, my wife complained about the A/C smelling, especially when the engine was turned off but the fans kept on - but I couldn't smell it.
I bought a Normfest Viro One Shot spray from Eurocarparts for £3.59 and rather than just let it off over my nice interior, I peeled off the bonnet seal and removed the two plastic covers under the windscreen, then removed the pollen filter housing and filter - then started the car with A/C on and fans on full and then sprayed it into the inlet so that it would hopefully condense on the evaporator and drip out of the drains. It seems to have done the trick and now get a nice subtle whiff when first turning on.
It was only 150ml and they also do a 300ml can so will try that too.
Don't do what I did and test the spray to see if you like the smell as once you press it it stays on. Had to hold my finger over the nozzle very tight.
