The D2 is larger than the C6, all round.

Audi S6 C6: Length: 4,916 mm.
Width: 1,864 mm.

Audi S8 D2: Length: 5,034 mm.
Width: 1,880 mm.

So difference: Length: 118 mm.
Width: 16 mm.

Not much in it though, which is interesting as I always thought the '8 looked bigger.

not much, but enough to make a difference for me, not decided though.

I was always disappointed with the lock/turning circle with my D2, how does the D3 compare?

D3 has a similar turning circle to the D2 I think.

Default S6 vs s8

I think the size difference is minimal...but just consider the s6 will be alot harder to resell after an won't be anywhere near as comfortable....there is a market for s8 as a flagship car...but the s6 is like a poor substitute for the rs6...so in short go for the rs6 instead...you won't lose anywhere near as much in depreciation...

I prefer to think of the S6 as a practical everyday alternative to an RS6, it's unfair to compare the two. The S6 only 75% of the power of RS6 so in performance terms there's a massive difference, it's like comparing a 2.8l A8 and an S8. As for being more difficult to sell than an S8 I think that's debatable too, it's down to what potential buyers want from a car. Whichever way you look at it these are all big thirsty cars that you've really got to be committed to own - high usage=high costs

I like may people wanted an RS6 but as I didn't want to compromise and have a weekend only car than was going to cost a fortune to run, spend 90% of the time parked in the garage and only did a few thousand miles a year I lookeds at S8s and S6's instead as they were an affordable (sensible) alternative.

The S8 generally has the edge with equipment but in the end I went for the S6 due to the additional practicality of the estate which on occasions is very useful. After a long search and a lot of travelling I got a lpg converted S6 Avant that I do around 600 miles a week in and I'm very pleased with it.

Well when I had a C6 courtsey car I parked it next to my D2 and decided it was bigger, not that scientific but I was convinced. The C5 feels so cheap compared to the D2, doesn't handle as good even with coilovers but that big b*stard 4.2 twin turbo V8, looks and 480 BHP makes it all worthwhile for me. But it does feel very dated inside whereas the D2 didn't. The C5 cannot touch a D2, and the previous owner of my RS6 had a final edition S8 before the RS6 and thinks exactly the same.

A agree, when I had my C5 RS6 it really did feel like the poorer quality lesser sibling of the D2... The performance made up for it on the back roads, but the rest of the time I'd have much rather been in a D2....

The Q7 is very A6 like, it doesnt have the finish and quality that the D3 had by a long way....
