Thanks to a good recommendation of a vehicle restorer/bodyshop by Craig above, the car is all fixed and looking as good as new. They did a bloody brilliant job.
I had to get a cheap complete rear bumper with trim off ebay at very short notice and I realised when I got it home that it's the rear bumper from the light blue D3 I had for a just a couple of weeks last year and whoever bought it from me obviously broke it for parts.  Anyway, the chrome trim is ever so slightly sticking out at one end so if it bugs me in the future then I'll get a new piece but for now...
