2003 D2 FL S8. Irish Green Pearl/Beige. Solar sunroof, auto-dim mirrors, electric rear seat functions and extended leather. Ski hatch retrofit. Aftermarket reversing camera. DVB-T and XCarlink now removed as redundant. 2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". (A much rarer model than a D2 S8 by the way!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one! Finally: gone, but not forgotten..... 1998 D2 PF S8. Agate Grey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, Tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors. e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later) 1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon. Added Auto-dim mirror, Leather seats, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer. And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850! |

Agree on point 1, car while not mentioned in this post is 2000 so FL based on other posts by owner.

Hi. Yes it's a 2000 facelift. BBA Reman said they had located a fault but it wasn't repairable and when I asked if parts from a donor unit could repair it they said no. That's all I know at the moment, I've just tried calling for more info if they have it but they're closed til Monday, I'll try again then.
I also spoke to an Audi main dealer this week who said they were "reluctant" to reprogram the existing keys and a replacement cluster. They told me that a new cluster would have been available up until 4 months ago but is now obsolete. Also, if I did want to go ahead and supply them with a replacement used cluster, it would cost around £350 for two new keys and an estimated three hours labour, £360, to replace and reprogramme everything. They said even if they did this, they couldn't guarantee it would work, and if it didn't, I could be left with two unuseable clusters (and still a large bill of course!). I understand if they need cover their backs, but I have no handle on how risky this really is? Their parting advice to me was "Don't do it"! Are Audi main dealers the only option to get reprogramming done?? What I really would like to do is take a replacement cluster to a specialist for reprogramming (and reprogramme my existing keys etc). Mattylondon thanks for the earlier link about this. Is there anyone I can go to other than a main dealer to do this though? Thanks. |

Thanks again Steamship. Yes indeed, I got the distinct impression they couldn't be bothered and were just trying to put me off!
I should try a few more main dealers and see what others say, maybe I'll find one more willing... Could I ask who did yours? |

It,s not really the dealer job and you will get similar answer from most of them or just plain refuse to do it. I don't think dealer can reuse old keys on another cluster cluster anyway with their kit. You need to find good indy garage who can and will do it for you.

Buy a FL used cluster.
Greenaway auto electrics in Belfast can lift immobiliser info and mileage from your current cluster and program it into the replacement. Doesnt even have to be an s8 cluster as they can swap clock faces over too.

Just to add to a comment I made earlier.
"When I contacted the Audi dealership about it, the 'only' requirement was that both clusters had to have the same part number." I decided to look through my photos and I took photos of the part numbers of my cluster and the replacement one. One was 4D0919035AQ and the other was 4D0919931KX, so even their 'only' requirement wasn't definite. That bodes well for you, especially if you follow up on Chris' suggestion of Greenaway Auto Electrics.
