Sorry I can't come along too, but I'm heading for The Lakes tomorrow. Some things to consider:
Alcantara can get a bit bobbly and worn looking - and you either love it or hate it!
Those 20" wheels are pretty horrible, but what condition are the 18" (Avus, hopefully) wheels. 20" is definitely a harsher ride, but with good tyres it's OK. But you'd pay up to £1,000 for a decent set of original 20" FE wheels.
The phone prep is awful! How much of a mess will that make when it comes out? But if it's only the transmission tunnel panel, you could easily get a replacement.
Otherwise, it looks good on the photos.

Good luck!

Planned mods: auto-dimming rear view mirror, dash cam (as steamship's), fit the ski hatch, refit philips drl's (or maybe not - nope, definitely not - horrible botch!).

Thanks Laird, I agree that the existing 20's are ghastly, e-bay methinks. I think the phone prep looks as though it is only clipped under the bottom of the trim so i hope it might come off easily. Thanks for your interest! John

Looks pretty decent.. if John can't make it through, then I'm 20 mins from Carluke, would be happy enough to come down and give it a VCDS scan, and a quick test drive.

This cars been about for a while so I suggest the guy would move a bit on price.
If I'd got a hold of him I was gonna ask him to drop the price a bit & keep his 20s to sell elsewhere.....worth a try!
Mind n check for water in the footwells & the fuel pump as well (the one I bought came with a full tank - apparently if the pumps not 100% the car may run rough when petrol gets low)
Apart from that, check the usual std car stuff - there's a checklist on audipages.

I'm working tomorrow & not totally clued up on these cars, but if u need a second opinion or ur having any problems then get me on here or il PM u my number - I'm only a few miles away in North Lanarkshire.

Much nicer to look at and sit on than leather.
I make a habit of picking the "bobbles" off my drivers seat before I get in, if there are any new ones.

The phone prep looks like it's fixed low down but easy to remove with no/minimal damage.

Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. Agate Grey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, Tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)

And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

Richard, if you want we could both go along and meet John (jayvee) at the hotel and if you brought the vag-com I would leave that bit to you to checking over whilst I have a look at the other bits.

Hi John, Richard, I would be so grateful if you both could come along. I have asked/told the vendor that I am bringing a couple of friends along - no problem. Is it a 'mini-meet' that you call this sort of thing? This may not be the best place to say this but I am overwhelmed by the help you two and all the other forum members have given me.Thank you all, I think this is a special forum judging by my experience up 'till now! John

You're right. There are some great guys here and I've had loads of help over the years with my '8s. And they're a good laugh when you meet up too!
